 This lighthouse was built in 1849 on the north-western cape of the island Dugi Otok, 20 n.m. to the west of Zadar. On the eastern side of the cape, in the long bay of Pantera, 3 km from the lighthouse , there are v ilages Veli Rat, Verunica and Polje. There are 6 km from the lighthouse to the place of Soline in the port of Solišcica and 9 km to the ferr port of Božava. The lighhouse has a nice chapel where masses of seamen are usually performed. The lighhouse is surrounded by pine woods, beautiful bays and pebble beaches. Veli Rat , with its light-tower 40 m above its groundfloor building, its large paved courtyard and its chapel , is one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the Croatian part of the Adriatic . Its neat area is 135 m2. another 40 m2 in auxiliary .
Beside the building there is a wharf with hoist for small boats. It has own electricity and water sources.
Lighthouse can be reached with vehicle. Plovput shall equip the lighthouse additionally till cca 01.07.2000. Supply is possible on Dugi Otok. Canalization is solved with “ black pit”. The lighthouse has lighthouse man. In agreement with him guests can agree about burning of garbage but rest they must take with themselves.
