The island of Sušac is situated in the open sea. It always has a surprise in store for its new visitors. Upon nearing the island, in the place where only one island is shown in the map, two can actually be seen; one bigger and the other very small bearing a lighthouse on its stone head. Due to this phenomenon which resembles a mirage, many tourists have turned their boats back convinced that they have missed their destination. People have been fishing for sardines around the island for centuries. Recently, however, fishermen have become 3 choosy, and now most are fishing for sea-food of a better quality , such as lobster, squid and white fish. Apart from the lighthouse keepers and shepards taking care of their herds on the other side of the island, Sušac is unpopulated. It will probably stay that way unless it is discovered by some modern Robinsons, capable of recongnizing and appreciating the wonders of wilderness in the open sea.

The lighthouse was built in 1878 at south –west side of the island of Sušac. Its distance , from the coast of the island of Hvar is 23 nm to the south, and from the island of Lastovo it is 13 nm to the west.On its south side there are rocks and cliffs and on its north side , the island falls easy to sea.

The lighthouse was built in 1878 on the south-western side of the island bearing the same name. The lighthouse is located 100 m above sea level and offers a beautiful view of the sea. The island has an area of 6 km2 and it is not inhabited.. The only inhabitans on Sušac are the lighthouse keepers. There are many nice bays and paths.
As the building is located high on the hill, this lighthouse is not recommended for older people, or those who are not in a good physical condition.
There is a wharf with a boat hoist near the building.
The surrounding sea is rich in fish and it is suitable for all types of fishing. It is obligatory to have permits for fishing and underwater fishing

Beaches
Secluded bays on the eastern side of the island are ideal for swimming. They are some 40 minutes walk away from the lighthouse.
There are rocky beaches on Sušac, while the sea cannot even be accessed on some parts of the island, therefore we do not recommend Sušac for families with children.

Transfer
Vela Luka (island of Korčula) – Sušac – Vela Luka

Transfer to the island is assured from Vela Luka. Return transfer is separately charged EUR 220,00 per apartment. Transfer to Sušac takes place very early in the morning, and it takes 2 hours, depending on weather conditions. We recommend you check ferry and catamaran lines from Split to Vela Luka or from Dubrovnik to Korčula at www.jadrolinija.hr and, if necessary, arrive in Vela Luka one day prior to transfer to the lighthouse.

Provisions
Because of its isolated position, provisions should be brought by guests.
We recommend you arrange preparation of meals with lighthouse keepers, including supply of fish that they catch themselves. This will be charged separatel
