The lighthouse on Struga is connected with two most unusual Adriatic records. The first was when the fishermen of Lastovo caught an enormous lobster, wieghing almost 18 kilos , at the end of the 19th century not more than 20 to 30 metres from the stone foundations of the light-house. The incredibly large lobster was duly packed and dispatched to Emperor Francis Joseph in Vienna where it allegedly arrived stil alive. The elderly Emperor returned the courtesy by sending a big trunk full of cofee and sugar which the local fairly distributed among themselves. Half a century later, from a steep rock descending almost perpendicularly 50 metres into the sea, an enormous coral weighing 45 kilos was peeled off using special pliers by fortunate hunters. A coral tree, even remotely approximating it in size, has never been extracted from the Adriatic Sea.

Struga was built in 1839 in the middle side of the island of Lastovo, at the enter to the small bay,with beautiful sandy beach.The island of Lastovo has not a lot of inhabitants ,and its distance from Split and Dubrovnik is for about 55 n.m.To the place of Lastovo there is 5 km,and to the ferry and travel port of Ubli,there is about 15 km. The island is surounded by beautiful lagunes.At the sea around the island it is possible to find good fish.

The lighthouse was built in 1839 at the Cape of Struga, in the central part of the southern side of the island of Lastovo, at the entrance into the bay called Skrivena Luka. Lastovo is a poorly populated island. It is 5 km to the small town of Lastovo and 15 km to the port of Ubli. The island is surrounded by numerous islands, cliffs and lagoons. The lighthouse is located 70 m above sea level, at the very edge of a steep cliff from which there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

Access to the lighthouse is possible by a gravel road.

Beaches
Behind the lighthouse there is a concrete swimming area with deep waters and is surrounded by pine trees. There are splendid rocky beaches in some of the numerous secluded bays where waters are relatively shalow. The beaches are suitable for children.

Transfer
Transfer to the island is possible by ferry or catamaran from Split. Boats arrive in the port of Ubli, some 20 km from the lighthouse. If you are traveling without car, transfer to the lighthouse can be arranged with the lighthouse keeper at extra charge.
